What We Do

Welcome to the Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club! Our mission is to serve children and improve our community through dedicated service and volunteerism. As part of the global Kiwanis organization, we strive to make a lasting impact locally and beyond.

Our Mission

Kiwanis International, founded in 1915, is dedicated to serving children and improving communities worldwide. With over 550,000 members in 80 countries, Kiwanis has a long history of adapting to the changing needs of society, always focused on fostering positive change.

Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club

Our club has a unique history, originating as an offshoot of the Kiwanis Noon Club to accommodate those who preferred an earlier meeting time. We meet every Wednesday morning at 7 AM at Rudy’s, where we engage in activities such as guest speakers, training sessions, and field trips.

Community Projects

We are deeply committed to serving our community through various projects:

Adopt-A-Spot Community Service Initiative

  • The Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club proudly participates in the City of Denton’s Adopt-A-Spot program as part of our commitment to community stewardship and environmental responsibility. In 2025, we transitioned our adopted location from Windriver Lane to a new section spanning from the Medpark parking area to Loop 288.
  • On March 29, 2025, 27 Kiwanis members and volunteers came together for a two-hour cleanup along this corridor, contributing a total of 54 volunteer hours. This effort generated an estimated community impact of $1,878.66, based on the current valuation of volunteer service.
  • Our second cleanup took place on June 14, 2025, with 6 dedicated volunteers contributing 12 hours of service. This effort resulted in a community impact valued at $417.48.
  • Total 2024 Community Impact
  • As of mid-year 2025, the Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club’s Adopt-A-Spot program has contributed 66 volunteer hours through cleanup events, generating a total estimated community impact of $2,296.14.
  • These efforts not only help beautify our city but also reflect our club’s mission of service and civic engagement. We are grateful to all who participate and encourage others to join us in keeping Denton clean and welcoming for all.
  • Nette Shultz Elementary Support: Each year, we provide coats to students in need, ensuring they are warm during the winter months.

Disaster Relief Backpack Program: This year, we are launching a program to assemble and distribute backpacks filled with essential supplies for families affected by natural disasters.

Book Giveaway: Calhoun Middle School Book Giveaway – May 2, 2025

As part of our ongoing commitment to literacy and youth enrichment, the Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club visited Calhoun Middle School on Friday, May 2, 2025, to present books to the 8th grade class. Club President Ken Reedy, along with members Betty Roberts, Keith Wise, and Chrissie Clanton, had the honor of distributing copies of Invisible by Christina Diaz Gonzalez and illustrated by Gabriela Epstein.

This initiative aligns with our club’s mission of “Serving the Children of the World” and reflects our dedication to supporting the educational journey of young people in our community.

We extend our sincere thanks to the faculty, staff, and students of Calhoun Middle School for their warm reception — and we wish the 8th grade class many enjoyable hours of reading!

Build Build with Sleep in Heavely Peace :The Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club proudly partnered with Sleep in Heavenly Peace to ensure that no child in our community has to sleep on the floor. During our recent build, 37 dedicated volunteers contributed five hours of service each—resulting in a $6,43615 impact for local families in need. Service like this turns compassion into comfort, one bed at a time.

Salvation Army Bell Ringers: We will also be volunteering as bell ringers for the Salvation Army during the holiday season to help raise funds for those in need.

Fundraising and Events

Our primary fundraising event is the Turkey Roll Bicycle Rally, held the Saturday before Thanksgiving at Denton High School. This event attracts 600 to 1,000 riders, and we rely on volunteers for roles such as parking management and rest stop support. The funds raised support our community service projects.www.DentonTurkeyRoll.com

Each year, the Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club proudly participates in the Denton Yankee Doodle Parade, a cherished community event celebrating patriotism and civic pride. Our float entries are designed to honor American history and highlight our club’s commitment to youth involvement and community engagement.

In 2024, our float paid tribute to the iconic moment of raising the flag at Iwo Jima, earning recognition for both creativity and impact. In 2025, we reenacted the landing at Normandy Beach, with enthusiastic support from our Key Club members at Denton High School and Ryan High School, who portrayed the brave soldiers who stormed the beaches on D-Day.

Over the last three years, our floats have won awards in two parades—testament to the dedication and spirit of our members and youth partners. Through this event, we proudly showcase our club’s values while engaging with the broader Denton community.

Key Clubs and Scholarships

We sponsor three Key Clubs at Denton High, Ryan High, and Guyer High. These clubs promote leadership and service among high school students. In May, senior Key Club members are encouraged to apply for scholarships to support their college or trade school education. Each Key Club has a facility sponsor and a Denton Breakfast Kiwanis advisor. If you’re interested in becoming an advisor or starting a new Key Club, please contact our president or vice president.

Social Events

We believe in building strong relationships within our club through social events like First Thirsty, where we explore new restaurants or bars each month. This is a great opportunity to unwind and connect with fellow members.

Get Involved

We welcome new members and encourage you to share your ideas for programs and projects. If you’re interested in taking on a leadership role or joining our board, please talk to a board member, the president, or the vice president. We also participate in the Denton Jazz Fest to recruit new members and connect with the community.

Join us in making a difference in Denton and beyond. Together, we can achieve great things!
