What We Do

Welcome to the Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club! Our mission is to serve children and improve our community through dedicated service and volunteerism. As part of the global Kiwanis organization, we strive to make a lasting impact locally and beyond.

Our Mission

Founded in 1915, Kiwanis International is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the lives of children and strengthening communities.

With more than 550,000 members across 80 countries, Kiwanis brings people together to identify local needs, develop meaningful service projects, and create lasting positive change. For more than a century, our mission has remained clear: serve children, support families, and build stronger communities—one project at a time.

Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club

Our club has a unique history, originating as an offshoot of the Kiwanis Noon Club to accommodate those who preferred an earlier meeting time. We meet every Wednesday morning at 7 AM at Rudy’s, where we engage in activities such as guest speakers, training sessions, and field trips.

Community Projects

We prefer projects we can put our hands on. Building a bed, picking up trash, handing a coat to a child, or helping a Key Club student plan their next service day —those are the things that keep us coming back.

Adopt-A-Spot

We look after a stretch of road running from the Medpark parking area to Loop 288. A couple of times a year we gather with gloves and trash bags and spend a few hours making the place look better.

In 2025 our cleanups added up to 66 volunteer hours and more than $2,200 in estimated community value. It’s not glamorous work, but the corridor is cleaner because we show up.

Disaster Relief Backpack Program

This year, we are launching a program to assemble and distribute backpacks filled with essential supplies for families affected by natural disasters.

Nette Shultz Elementary Support

Each year, we provide coats to students in need, ensuring they are warm during the winter months.

Building beds with Sleep in Heavenly Peace

Some children in our community don’t have a bed of their own. We partner with Sleep in Heavenly Peace to change that. On build days you’ll find a couple dozen of us cutting, sanding, and assembling beds side by side.

One recent project brought 37 volunteers together for five hours each. That’s the kind of morning that stays with you.

Book Giveaway: Calhoun Middle School Book Giveaway – May 2, 2025

As part of our ongoing commitment to literacy and youth enrichment, the Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club visited Calhoun Middle School on Friday, May 2, 2025, to present books to the 8th grade class. Club President Ken Reedy, along with members Betty Roberts, Keith Wise, and Chrissie Clanton, had the honor of distributing copies of Invisible by Christina Diaz Gonzalez and illustrated by Gabriela Epstein.

This initiative aligns with our club’s mission of “Serving the Children of the World” and reflects our dedication to supporting the educational journey of young people in our community.

We extend our sincere thanks to the faculty, staff, and students of Calhoun Middle School for their warm reception — and we wish the 8th grade class many enjoyable hours of reading!

Fundraising and Events

Our primary fundraising event is the Turkey Roll Bicycle Rally, held each year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving at Denton High School. In 2025, our 43rd Annual Turkey Roll welcomed 1,083 riders, demonstrating the continued growth and popularity of this long-standing Denton tradition. For the 44th Annual Turkey Roll in 2026, we are anticipating approximately 1,250 riders.

The success of the Turkey Roll depends heavily on volunteers who assist with parking, rider registration, rest stops, route support, and other event-day activities. Funds raised through the rally directly support the Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club’s community service projects and programs benefiting children and families throughout our community.

Denton Breakfast Kiwanis had a wonderful time at the Yankee Doodle Parade yesterday! 

Our club was proud to celebrate America’s 250th birthday with a float featuring a handmade cardboard birthday cake, along with a great cast of historic and patriotic characters, including George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt, Rosie the Riveter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Florence Nightingale, the Statue of Liberty, an astronaut, a sailor, Albert Einstein and even an actual retired Army Colonel.
We also had our own “guards” walking alongside the float, with members dressed as World War II Army soldiers, handing out American flags, 4th of July tattoos, buttons, ducks, and eagles to the crowd.
Most of all, we enjoyed being out in the community, seeing smiling faces, and celebrating the spirit of service, patriotism, and fun that makes Denton such a special place.
Thank you to everyone who came out, waved, cheered, and celebrated with us. The Denton Breakfast Kiwanis Club loves serving this community!

Key Clubs and Scholarships

We sponsor three Key Clubs at Denton High, Ryan High, and Guyer High. These clubs promote leadership and service among high school students. In May, senior Key Club members are encouraged to apply for scholarships to support their college or trade school education. Each Key Club has a facility sponsor and a Denton Breakfast Kiwanis advisor. If you’re interested in becoming an advisor or starting a new Key Club, please contact our president or vice president.

Social Events

We believe in building strong relationships within our club through social events like First Thirsty, where we explore new restaurants or bars each month. This is a great opportunity to unwind and connect with fellow members.

If you’re interested in taking on a leadership role or joining our board, please talk to a board member, the president, or the vice president. We also participate in the Denton Jazz Fest to recruit new members and connect with the community.
